Waterdrop Series
This ceramic work, part of the Waterdrop Series, reflects Mineo Mizuno’s deep reverence for nature and his life in the forests of California. Each form carries a hand-brushed kanji character representing values such as harmony, respect, and consciousness, as well as the essential role of water in connecting all living beings. These droplets are conceived as individual units of consciousness—separate yet profoundly interconnected.
Originally, the works were placed around a fallen California oak tree that had come down during a severe winter storm. In this setting, the waterdrops evoke the presence of water within a dry landscape—small and quiet, yet essential to life. Whether supporting sculptures made from burnt oak or resting directly on the earth, each piece invites reflection on coexistence, interdependence, and what we can learn from nature.
このセラミック作品《Waterdrop Series》は、水野峰夫がカリフォルニアの森での生活の中で培ってきた自然への深い敬意を反映している。ひとつひとつの形には、調和・尊敬・意識、そしてすべての生命をつなぐ水の本質を象徴する漢字が手書きで施されている。これらの水滴は、それぞれが個の意識でありながら、分離しつつも深く結びついた存在として描かれている。
もともとは、厳しい冬の嵐で倒れたカリフォルニアオークの周囲に配置され、乾いた大地における水の存在を想起させるものとして制作された。小さく静かな存在でありながら、生命にとって不可欠な水の気配を象徴している。焼かれたオークの彫刻を支えるように、あるいは大地に静かに置かれることで、それぞれの作品は共生・相互依存・そして自然から学ぶ姿勢を観る者に促す。
Exhibitions and Context
These works were created in conjunction with two major installations by Mineo Mizuno:

Both projects were rooted in a sustained dialogue with nature. Within this context, the Waterdrop Series embodies themes of harmony, interconnectedness, and water as a metaphor for consciousness and life. The series continues to carry forward the spirit and philosophy developed through these landmark installations.
これらの作品は、水野峰夫による二つの重要なインスタレーションと関連して制作・発表された。
ロサンゼルス・カウンティ美術館（LACMA）での屋外インスタレーション《Harmony》（2019年8月–2020年2月）と、ガゴシアン・ビバリーヒルズでの屋上展示《Stories From a California Forest》（2020年）である。
いずれのプロジェクトも自然との対話を軸としており、《Waterdrop Series》はその中で、調和・相互連関・そして水＝意識と生命のメタファーというテーマを体現している。本シリーズは、これらの展覧会で育まれた思想と空気を現在も引き継いでいる。
