Our Philosophy

At mm project art, we believe that every place holds its own memories, knowledge, and quiet wisdom.

 

To touch the land is not simply to walk upon it. It is to observe, listen, gather colors, make, and care—to build relationships with the people, materials, and stories that belong to a place.

 

Through research, artistic practice, conversation, publishing, community engagement, and collecting, we create opportunities for these relationships to grow.

 

Each project begins with curiosity and continues through shared experiences. Together, they form a cycle of learning, making, sharing, preserving, and carrying these experiences forward into everyday life.

 

We believe that art is not separate from life. It is a way of paying attention, creating meaningful connections, and discovering a deeper understanding of ourselves, each other, and the places we call home.

 

Touching the Land is the philosophy that connects everything we do.

私たちの理念

​

mm project artは、土地にはそれぞれ固有の記憶や文化、自然、そして人々の営みが息づいていると考えています。

 

私たちが考える「Touching the Land（土地と響きあう）」とは、ただ土地に触れることではありません。

 

土地を歩き、観察し、耳を澄ませ、色を集め、手を動かし、人と語り合うこと。
その土地にある自然や素材、人々、記憶や物語とていねいな関係を育んでいくことです。

 

リサーチ、制作、対話、出版、地域との協働、そして作品を暮らしへ届けること。
それぞれは独立した活動ではなく、一つの循環の中でつながっています。

 

好奇心から始まった小さな発見は、作品となり、人との出会いとなり、記録となり、新たな対話を生み、次の世代へと受け継がれていきます。

 

私たちは、アートは日常から切り離された特別なものではなく、人と人、人と土地をつなぎ、暮らしを豊かにする営みであると考えています。

「Touching the Land（土地と響きあう）」という理念は、6つのプロジェクトを通して具体的なかたちとなります。

 

それぞれのプロジェクトは、土地、素材、人、地域、そして日々の暮らしとの関係を育むための異なるアプローチです。

About mm project art

 

​

mm project art is an artist-led gallery based in Akiota, Hiroshima, and Los Angeles.

 

Guided by our philosophy of Touching the Land, we develop exhibitions, research, publications, workshops, and collaborative projects that explore the relationships between people, place, materials, memory, and everyday life.

 

Our gallery in Akiota is rooted in a landscape where mountains, rivers, forests, and local traditions continue to shape artistic practice. Here, we create opportunities for artists and visitors to slow down, observe closely, and engage in meaningful dialogue with the land and with one another.

 

Our Los Angeles office serves as a base for online activities and international connections. It is also a place where we continue to learn through conversations with artists, curators, and our creative community, while expanding relationships beyond Japan.

 

We are deeply grateful to continue working in a place shaped by Riko Mizuno (former Mizuno Gallery). Her generosity, trust in artists, and spirit of creative exchange continue to inspire our practice and remind us that meaningful relationships are at the heart of every lasting artistic community.

 

Rather than simply presenting artworks, mm project art seeks to cultivate relationships—between artists and audiences, places and memories, making and living. Through these connections, we hope to create spaces where conversations continue long after an exhibition has ended.

mm project artは、広島県安芸太田町とロサンゼルスを拠点に活動するアーティスト主導のギャラリーです。

 

私たちは、「Touching the Land（土地と響きあう）」という理念のもと、展覧会、リサーチ、出版、ワークショップ、地域との協働を通して、人・土地・素材・記憶・日々の暮らしを結ぶ関係を育んでいます。

 

安芸太田町では、山々や清流、森、神楽をはじめとする豊かな自然と文化に囲まれた環境の中で、土地に耳を澄ませ、人や自然との対話から生まれる創造の営みを大切にしています。

 

ロサンゼルスのオフィスは、オンラインでの活動や海外とのつながりを育む拠点であるとともに、アーティストやキュレーターとの対話を重ね、新たな視点や交流を学び続ける場でもあります。

 

また、Riko Mizuno（former Mizuno Gallery）さん が長年育んできた、アーティストへの深い信頼と惜しみない支援、そして創造的な交流の精神は、今も私たちの活動に大きな示唆を与え続けています。私たちは、その場所で学ばせていただいたことへの感謝を忘れず、その精神に学びながら、自分たちなりの歩みを重ねています。

 

私たちは、作品を展示することだけを目的とは考えていません。

 

作品を通して、人と人、人と土地、人と記憶が出会い、新たな対話が生まれ、そのつながりが日々の暮らしへと続いていくことを大切にしています。

 

mm project artは、そうした関係性を丁寧に育みながら、土地と響きあい、人と人を結ぶ場であり続けたいと考えています。
