All You Need Is Balance, Horse
This work was created for Chisato Kobayakawa’s 2025 exhibition From the Egg, It Begins, which explores themes surrounding the origins of life and creation.
A white horse stands quietly upon a soft pink plate. The composition suggests a silent self-portrait, reflecting the artist’s search for balance between strength and vulnerability, earth and sky, and between the self and emerging life.
The horse, traditionally a symbol of power, speed, and vitality, is here removed from narrative motion and instead presented in a state of still equilibrium. This restraint draws attention not to movement, but to the delicate tension between stability and instability.
The pink plate functions less as a stable ground than as a provisional, almost pre-formal surface—evoking a state of pre-emergence or becoming. Upon it, the white horse appears as a presence still in formation, maintaining balance within an uncertain field.
As suggested by the exhibition title From the Egg, It Begins, the work embodies both fragility and potential at the moment of beginning. It is not a depiction of completion, but an attentive observation of life in its earliest state of becoming.
本作《All You Need Is Balance, Horse》は、小早川智里による2025年の展覧会「From the Egg, It Begins」のために制作された作品であり、生命や創造の始まりを主題とする一連の思考の中から生まれている。
作品には、柔らかなピンクのプレートの上に白い馬が静かに立っている。その姿は、力強さと繊細さ、地と空、そして自己と新たに生まれ出る生命とのあいだにある「バランス」を探るような、静かな自己像として提示されている。
馬という存在は、本来、力や速度、生命力を象徴する動物である一方で、本作においては過剰な動きや物語性を排され、静止した均衡の状態として現れている。その抑制された佇まいは、むしろ内面的な緊張と調和の両方を強く意識させる。
ピンクのプレートという柔らかな基盤は、安定した大地というよりも、未分化な状態や誕生前の揺らぎを想起させる。その上に立つ白い馬は、まだ確定されていない存在として、かろうじて均衡を保ちながらそこに在る。
展覧会タイトル「From the Egg, It Begins」が示すように、本作は「始まり」における不安定さと可能性を同時に内包している。それは完成された姿ではなく、生成の途中にある状態そのものへの眼差しである。
