NEST — Back into Nature
Mineo Mizuno’s NEST has returned to our Northern California studio after its exhibition at The Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens.
While reinstalling the work, the artist discovered a bird’s nest quietly built inside a sansho (Japanese pepper) tree he had planted near the studio.
Next to that tree stands a rain chain—made years ago by the artist from scrap copper—which still allows water to trickle down continuously. Birds often come to drink from it.
This gentle coexistence of human-made and natural elements has long shaped the space, and the appearance of a real bird’s nest within it deeply moved the artist.
NEST has always questioned our relationship to nature, memory, regeneration, and place. In that moment, those themes became real once again.
The reinstallation became a meaningful moment of reflection and renewal for the artist.
Inspired by this experience, a special new work has been created and is now available exclusively on Artsy.
Mineo Mizuno, the artist behind NEST, continues to explore themes of regeneration and coexistence through ceramic and nature-inspired sculptural works.
NEST ― 再び、自然の中へ
水野峰夫の《NEST》は、The Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardensでの展示を終え、北カリフォルニアのスタジオに戻りました。
再展示の準備をしていたある日、彼の植えた山椒の木に、小鳥が巣を作っていたことに気づきました。
その山椒の木のすぐ隣には、以前アーティストが廃材の銅板から制作したレインチェーンがあり、そこには今も常に水が滴り落ちています。鳥たちは日々そこへ水を飲みにやってきます。
人の手でつくられたものと自然が静かに共存している場所。その中に鳥が自然に巣を作ったことは、作家にとって深く心を動かされる出来事でした。
《NEST》という作品が問いかけてきた、自然との共生、再生、記憶、そして場所との関係性――それらが新たに立ち上がった瞬間でした。
この経験をもとに、作家は特別な新作を制作しました。その再展示は、作家にとって大切な「記憶の再構築」となり、新たな表現へとつながっています。
この経験からうまれた特別な作品を、Artsyにて限定公開・販売しています。
