平野薫は日本を拠点に活動するインスタレーションアーティストです。布に内在する痕跡や記憶、歴史に着目し、テキスタイルの再構築を通して、物質・時間・人間の経験の関係性を探求しています。

彼女の制作は、古着や傘、既存の布素材などを解体し、それらを糸のレベルまで分解することから始まります。その過程で、素材に蓄積された

時間や記憶の層を浮かび上がらせ、新たな立体作品として再構成していきます。

彼女の実践は、布を空間的なインスタレーションへと変換し、脆さと再構築が共存する表現を通して、時間の経過や文化的記憶について

静かに問いかけるものです。

Kaoru Hirano is a Japanese installation artist whose practice explores the traces, memory, and history embedded within cloth. Through textile-based reconstruction, she examines the relationship between material, time, and human experience.

Her work begins with the deconstruction of existing materials such as old garments, umbrellas, and found textiles. By unraveling these materials down to individual threads, she reveals the accumulated layers of memory contained within them, reconfiguring them into new sculptural forms.

Her practice transforms textiles into spatial and sculptural installations where fragility and reconstruction coexist, offering a quiet reflection on the passage of time and cultural history.

artist statement

これは戦争柄の着物です。青を基調としたこの着物には、空を飛ぶゼロ戦、海に浮かぶ戦艦などが描かれていました。戦争柄の着物は、明治27年（1894年）の日清戦争の開始から昭和15年（1940年）に出された贅沢禁止令までの間に流行しました。そして着物の図柄から、これは、1924年から1940年の間のものだと推測しています。乾淑子さんは著書の中で、戦争柄は政府の強制的なプロパガンダなどではなく、今でいうデパートなどのファッション業界が売り出した流行の中にあったもので、時代の勢いの中から自然に刷り込まれた富国強兵や近代化への憧れが、戦争を是認し、その是認が戦争協力を好ましく取り上げる文様を生み享受させたという構図をもっていると述べられています。

これは男性用の襦袢で、お尻あたりがひどくすり切れて穴だらけでした。当時日常的着用されていたのでしょう。すり切れて穴だらけの襦袢から一本づつ糸をひき抜き、穴のたびに切れる糸を何度も結びつなげています。執拗に糸をひき抜き結ぶ行為は、空っぽの中にある存在を探しているような行為でもあります。

そして、展覧会タイトルの「空の衣服」は、着物柄のゼロ戦が飛んでいる青空の「空」と、抜け殻の着物、空っぽの「空」の両方の意味をもっています。
